While the risk of spiders and snakes in Australia is well documented, this kangaroo's reaction goes to show that these cute looking marsupials are not to be underestimated either.
When Mick Moloney took his dog for a walk along the Murray river in Victoria, he had no idea of the encounter that awaited him.
Held hostage
Scouring the river bank for his dog, Mick noticed a huge kangaroo standing in the water. Shortly after, he realised the kangaroo was holding onto his dog Hutchy, and he definitely didn't have any intention of letting go.
Wading into the water, he knew he had to help his pup to safety. But at 7 feet tall, the marsupial wasn't going to make this an easy rescue.
A punch to remember
Taking a quick swipe at Mick, the kangaroo clearly knew how to defend himself. Thankfully, as the brave dog owner fell back into the water, Hutchy was able swim away to shore.
The video, which was first uploaded by the Mildura Martial Arts School, has now been viewed over 2.5 million times on TikTok.
"I thought the dog was taking the kangaroo back to land after a friendly swim on his back" claimed one bemused viewer, while another commented, "suddenly I don't have the urge to pet a kangaroo".
With martial art skills most humans dream of, this feisty kangaroo seemed to have the upper hand, looking on unphased as Mick and his dogs made their way to safety.
