A dog owner who felt she had no choice but to only walk her dog at night, finally accepted she was not strong enough to cope with her beloved Cane Corso mix.

The woman was besotted with the dog, whom she describes as 54 kilos of concentrated joy.

Cane Corso companion

She instantly fell in love with Patou the Cane Corso, who quickly became her wonderful and friendly companion. However, she soon realised that she’d made a terrible mistake. The two-year-old bundle of energy was physically overwhelming for her due to his muscular build.

As she struggled to walk him, she began taking Patou for dog walks at night when no one else was around. But that wasn’t a sustainable solution. Eventually, the woman reached a breaking point and made a desperate decision – she asked the fire department to take Patou away because she couldn’t handle him.

New home wanted for Patou

The fire department took the suddenly homeless dog to the Cologne-Dellbrück animal shelter, where the strong and energetic Patou found a new temporary home. The shelter team acknowledged his strength, saying,

“Patou is a really strong guy; even some of our colleagues have problems when it comes to keeping him on a leash.”

They hope to find a new owner with “Popeye arms” who can handle him. Let’s hope the shelter can find Patou a spinach-loving owner very soon!
