Toy dogs tend to reap most of the rewards for being the cutest of dogs. But one King Charles may just have pipped them all to being the most adorable dog in the world.

When you think of toy dogs which ones come to mind? Perhaps the Pug, the Shih Tzu, or maybe even the Papillon? All of them have endearing qualities but none more so than one particular Cavalier King Charles from New York City.

Nessa has made her fame on Instagram. No, she's not a teacup or a miniature - she began life as the runt of the litter and has since grown to weigh 3 kilos (about the quarter of the weight of a bar of gold!) The breed standard is to weigh between 5 and 8 kilos.

Now two years old, Nessa has 186K followers on Instagram. It seems this pocket-sized dog, despite being smaller than her siblings, has achieved fame where they have not!

Check out Nessa’s Instagram page for dozens of pictures of this perfectly formed dog in action, and among stunning settings. You won’t be disappointed!

Runt of the litter

The runt of a litter is an animal (usually a pig) that is born smaller and weaker than its siblings. This in turn has some quite devastating repercussions: a runt is more prone to diseases than a healthy offspring, and is less likely to be able to fight its way to its mother’s teat.

Most farmers and some animal breeders will dispose of the runt before it becomes ill and requires medical attention. And of course in the wild, the runt would die of its own accord.

Nessa’s fame is thus somewhat of a poke in the eye of natural selection since her being the runt has only increased her cuteness and popularity.

Nessa won’t grow any bigger, and her puppy-like appearance is sure to garner a few more Instagram followers in the future.
