This rescue mission took place in a quiet village in Poland. Police were called to a suspicious home that looked abandoned.
But they soon found out the house wasn't empty. It had a dog inside. And he had been left on his own for close to a year.

Nightmarish conditions await the rescuers
The dog had survived only thanks to the kindness of a neighbour who fed him scraps through the space underneath the front door.
Because the home was so secluded, no-one else had realised the dog had been abandoned. Thankfully, an animal rescue quickly came to the location.
House of horrors: dog locked up for over a year
When rescuers arrived on site and entered the home, they were all lost for words. The floor was covered in the dog's excrements. It was clear to see that the poor animal had been living in terrible conditions for far too long. Without the help of the neighbour, he would've had no chance of survival.
The animal welfare organisation is currently looking for the dog's owner. And they have discovered another shocking fact: apparently several family members knew about all this; they were fully aware that the dog had been abandoned there to its sad fate.
Happy ending for Rico
Fortunately, this horrific story has a happy ending. The dog has already found a new home where he can forget all the terrible suffering he went through. His name is now Rico and he lives a full life with a loving family.
