The animal shelter has shared a horrific case of neglect that left them both angry and heartbroken.
A new start for Leon?
It started when a family came to the shelter looking to adopt a dog. For the dog they had chosen to adopt, it was a long-awaited opportunity for a fresh new start with a loving family. Well, that's what the shelter volunteers had hoped.
As with all adoptions, the staff explained everything the family needed to know about the dog, who they named Leon. The family also came to the shelter several times to visit Leon before finally taking him home.
But in just 48 hours, everything changed, and Leon found himself back at the shelter. The volunteers were stunned and angry to see Leon brought back so quickly,
Responsibility of adoption
Sadly, it seems that at the very first hint of something challenging, the owners gave up on Leon and decided to throw him away. Leon seemed sad to be back at the shelter, with any hopes of becoming part of a loving family quickly dashed.
After seeing the impact this has had on Leon, the shelter launched an appeal to raise awareness of adoption and the huge responsibility it entails. They want people to understand that an animal is not a toy that can be easily discarded. They are living beings that need lots of time, patience and love.
As for Leon, the volunteers say it's a pity the family didn't want to meet Leon and take the time to find out what a wonderful dog he is. They vowed not to give up on him and would work hard to find a special family to give him all the love he deserves.
