Searching for dog
Donna Lochmann had the task of retrieving the dog; the only problem was she had to find it first.
The large derelict apartment building had been abandoned a long time ago. As Donna searched through the debris of each room, she found no trace of the dog. So Donna continued scouring the crumbling building, determined to find out where the dog was hiding.
Fortunately, her patience and perseverance finally paid off. As she approached some grass outside the building, she spotted a brown shape. Realising it was the dog, she tried to get closer, but the frightened dog ran back into the building. Donna knew that the dog could be in any of the apartments, and she would likely end up chasing the pup from apartment to apartment. She decided to round up a team of helpers to give her a better chance of catching the dog. The next day, Donna and her team returned, and they soon discovered the frightened pup. The dog was so frightened it was shaking violently with fear.
New start
Rather than distress the dog even more by trying to put her on a lead, Donna grabbed the dog, put her in a plastic crate, and carried it to the car. Once the dog arrived at the shelter, she was seen by the vet. Fortunately, despite her ordeal, the dog had no health problems. However, she was still very scared.
But thanks to the care and dedication of the shelter staff, it took just a few weeks for the dog, now called Habanero, to gain confidence and be comfortable around people. Habanero is enjoying life so much now that she kisses everyone she meets. The shelter hopes to find Habanero a suitable foster home to help her get back on her paws before eventually finding her forever home.
