A 'broken' dog had the sweetest reaction ever when realising he was moving out of the shelter and into a loving foster home. This is a story about how love can transform the saddest souls.

Things never went Oscar's way. And it showed. The two-year-old Pittie's permanent frown and super-sad face made him look much older.

This poor pooch knew nothing but sadness. Abandoned as a pup, he then found himself trapped in a cage at a dog shelter. And that's where he spent the first two years of his life.

Life broke Oscar

Oscar was the shelter's forgotten dog. Everybody seemed to ignore him. So it's no surprise that Oscar appeared to give up on life. Staff say he looked 'broken.' He showed all the classic signs of a depressed dog.

But people weren't ready to give up on him. When volunteers from the Humans and Animals United adoption service read Oscar's story, they made it their mission to get him out of the shelter and into a proper home.

And after tons of phone calls and emails, they finally found a kind person who agreed to foster Oscar until he finds a forever home.

Volunteers from Humans and Animals United were there to supervise and film the handover. And Oscar's reaction was absolutely adorable. Nobody told Oscar what was happening, but this dog knew that something amazing was about to happen.

Love transforms

He stood on his lead outside the shelter, eyes bright, tail wagging, and a big cute smile on his face. It was like Oscar had figured out he was never going back into that cage again. And it transformed him from the saddest dog in the shelter to the happiest pooch in the world.

Oscar's foster parents say he's doing great. He's responding well to his training and socialisation. And most importantly, he's learning what it feels like to be a dog that is loved.
