Ziemek is a handsome mixed-breed dog living his best dog life with a loving family in Poland. He has everything a dog could want or need. His owners say he's the happiest guy they've ever met. Ziemek approaches every new day with pure joy. But his life hasn't always been this good. Instead, he has a tragic backstory that would break any dog lover's heart.
Nothing to eat but apples
Rescuers found Ziemek chained to a dirty kennel outside an abandoned rural property a few hours from one of Poland's biggest cities. The poor pup had nothing except an empty food bowl.
There was zero sign of his previous owners. It looks like they just got up and left, leaving Ziemek behind.
Given the state of his coat and skinny frame, vets think Ziemek was out there for weeks. He only survived thanks to a nearby apple tree. Ziemek would eat the rotten fruit that fell on the floor.
When rescuers found him, there were no more apples on the tree. An examination by the vet suggests that Ziemek hadn't eaten for around ten days. A few more weeks out there alone and Ziemek would have starved to death.
Ziemek's happy ever after
But he's got a full belly now. And Ziemek always sleeps inside, not far from the special humans who agreed to give him a proper home.
His transformation has been truly amazing. Ziemek has filled out nicely and has a brightness in his eyes that says, "I'm a happy dog now, and life is just perfect."
