Shelter cat gets adopted after staff place brutally honest description on cage

A rescue shelter took the 'honesty is the best policy' approach when trying to rehome a sassy cat with a big attitude problem. And it worked!

Max the cat looks cute and innocent. And, in many ways, he really is. He loves cuddles and strokes and was a favourite of many of the people working at Oromocto and Area SPCA shelter.

But he also has a (very) sassy side to him. And if you happen to get on the wrong side of it, Max will let you know.

Little cat, big attitude

Max's unique 'communication' strategy is simple but effective. If he's not happy with you, this grumpy cat will take a swipe at you with his paw. And don't expect an apology after.

Shelter staff knew it would require a special owner with the right kind of paws to handle Max. So when it came to finding Max a new home, they didn't try to hide who he was.

Instead, they stuck a hilarious (and brutally honest) sign on Max's cage. The sign read, "It has been _ day(s) since I last smacked someone for no reason."

Staff then filled in the blank with the number of days Max went without smacking someone.

He never made it past day four. We told you he was sassy.

But despite his blunt way of expressing his feelings, shelter staff say that, deep down, Max is a love ball.

"He's sort of a cranky old man," says shelter manager Tracy Marcotullio. "If you don't read his cues properly, you're getting smacked. He's not a bad cat. He just gets overstimulated, and when he's had enough, he's had enough."

"The way to his heart is with canned food or treats. He's a treat monster."

Max finds a home

Max's story went viral online and was picked up by several local news channels. The shelter received dozens of enquiries about this feisty feline, and Max now has his forever home.

The unnamed owner fell in love with Max during the meet and greet. And yes, he did smack them. But that was always going to happen.
