A passerby discovered the black terrier on the street in the German town of Haldensleben in Saxony-Anhalt.
Good Samaritan to the rescue
As the dog appeared to be alone, the kind-hearted good Samaritan took it to her nearest police station.
Once in the care of the police, officers immediately checked the dog's collar for anything that may identify who it belonged to. But all they found was a pendant hanging from the collar containing characters from the Cyrillic alphabet. Cyrillic is a writing system that serves as the official script for several languages, including Ukrainian, Russian and Serbian.
Chilling translation
When the inscription was finally translated, everyone held their breath. It said:
With no information to go on, authorities are hoping the dog's owner will eventually come forward and enquire about the dog. In the meantime, the dog is being cared for at a local animal shelter.
