Evee is a medium sized female dog with a docked tail. She found herself at our public shelter in Romania in July 25 and was there until being offered a space at our Essex kennels in December 25. She was a happy and friendly girl in Romania. She is microchipped and vaccinated but due to her age not neutered. She has no known health issues.
Initial behaviour with new people
Evee can be unsure when meeting people she doesn’t know. If she feels overwhelmed, she may retreat to her bed or bedroom space. Once she feels comfortable, her confidence grows quickly and she greets people with a wagging tail, enjoying affection and cuddles. The use of a safe space in a home would help her build confidence at her own pace.
Handling & equipment
Evee accepts a harness and slip lead well. She is generally good on the lead, though when she feels unsure she can become stubborn and need gentle encouragement which she responds to well.
Social Behaviour
People & children
Evee met a 7 year old in Romania and although was friendly with them her sometimes bouncy behaviour would be best suited to children 12+ or slightly younger dog savvy children.
Other dogs
Evee has lived with other dogs and does not need a resident dog. She previously shared with two other female dogs; however, due to all three being strong and dominant, tensions became vocal with growls and they were separated. She has been a great help with one of our nervous dogs and is helping them learn to play.Evee can growl if play becomes too intense or if she feels the need to guard food or toys. With careful introductions and proper management, she could live with another dog. A meet would be preferred.
Cats & small animals
Evee met cats in Romania and although she didn't harm them she was very enthusiastic to meet them. She has shown prey drive, including barking and growling at goats on site, so a cat-free or small-animal-free home is recommended. She passes by horses without issue.
Resource Guarding
Evee has shown resource guarding behaviours, particularly around food and toys when sharing space with other dogs; feeding separately from other dogs, ongoing training and clear boundaries will help with this. This has only been with dogs and not people.
Kennel & Home Behaviours
Destructive behaviour
Evee may chew or rip up toys and soft bedding, especially when left with them. This appears to be typical enrichment destruction rather than anxiety-based behaviour.
Toileting
She does toilet in her kennel.
Time alone
Evee does not show signs of separation anxiety.
She has been left alone from approximately 7pm–9am and copes well.
She benefits from being left with chews and enrichment to keep her occupied.
Travel
Her behaviour in the car is currently unknown, as she hasn’t travelled with staff.
Evees carers say 'Evee is a lovely dog and she really enjoys a fuss and a cuddle. In the right home with some training, she’d make a brilliant companion'.
