Floki: male puppy to adopt

Little Floki was brought into the pound as a stray, so we have no idea of his past experiences or why he ended up there. What we do know, is that the first few months of Floki's life must have been difficult, and they have had an impact on the way he approaches new situations and new people. 

Floki is a very nervous, timid boy, who will avoid interacting with people if he is given the choice. We have no doubt this is due to a lack of confidence and possibly some bad experiences as a puppy, because if he is approached or handled he doesn't show any signs of aggression. He is just trying to keep himself safe and out of harm's way. 

Floki needs an experienced, calm home, willing to put the time and effort into bringing on a very nervous dog. He would love a fully fenced garden - as a Podenco cross he loves to explore and use his nose when possible- but he will need to be kept on lead at all times (at least until he is fully trusting and has a strong recall), as he can be quite the escape artist at the moment. 

Floki is quite selective with other dogs. At only 8-9 months of age, we don't know whether this stems from his insecure nature, and it therefore may change as he has positive socialisation experiences in the future, but it does mean we feel he would do best as an only dog in his new home.

He cannot be tested with cats or small furries. Due to his timid nature we would prefer an adult only home, without too many visitors or regular changes in routine. 

We don't yet know if Floki is housetrained or if he has ever lived in a home, so urban noises and a home environment may be totally new to him. Floki is still only a puppy really, and he has so much to learn about the world. With the right support and care in place, we feel he could blossom into the happy dog he should be, but his family needs to be aware that things will have to move at his own pace, letting him approach and take on new situations as and when he feels ready. If you feel this could be you, please get in touch. Floki is currently in Spain, waiting to find his forever family. He will travel vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and tested for Mediterranean diseases. He can be adopted in England or Wales.
