This puppy's leg disfigurements were so severe that vets believed it was best to humanely put her to sleep. But Wanda was a fighter, not a quitter.

Wanda the Cocker Spaniel, otherwise known as “Wonky Wanda,” came to Cinque Ports Rescue in the U.K. at only 15 weeks old. She came into this world with seriously disfigured legs that hindered her ability to walk.

A bleak future

Several veterinarians considered her bone damage to be very extreme - so extreme that they thought it would be for the best to have Wanda humanely put to sleep.

Despite having problematic paws the four-month-old pooch was taken in by volunteers, Kerri Eilertsen-Feeney and Eileen Mellis, founders of Cinque Ports Rescue in Meryl Gardens, Kent, who refused to give up on Wanda.

A pup with spunk

Wanda underwent surgery where a specialist orthopaedic vet rotated her ulna bones by 180 degrees and fixed them into place with pins.

Not only did she survive the lengthy and complicated surgery, but she also blossomed on the other end of it! Indeed, Wanda started to walk, to run, and to play like a normal pup! The volunteers who took her in were so glad that they hadn't taken the vets' advice and given up on her. Now Wanda was ready for her very own forever home!
