It was in the middle of Los Angeles' busy Hobart Boulevard that police officers made a shocking discovery that would change one of the officers' lives.

Officers Mercado and Tavera from the LAPD Hollywood Division were in the middle of a shift when they spotted something small and brown on the street. As they got closer, they realised it was a tiny brown puppy

Abandoned and alone

It didn't appear that the puppy was with anyone. So the officers decided to take him to a vet for a thorough check-up. While the good news was that the puppy was given a clean bill of health, with no collar or microchip, it was impossible to trace his owners. In fact, it appeared to everyone that the adorable little pup had been abandoned.

Feeling sorry for the poor abandoned puppy, the officers named him Hobart after the street where they found him. Back at the station, they shared a photo of the pup on Twitter, and it wasn't long before #HollywoodHobart was trending online.

Happy ending

Continuing their shift, officers Mercado and Tavera couldn't stop thinking about Hobart and couldn't imagine not seeing him again.

And it seems that Hobart may have felt the same as seen in a heartwarming video of Hobart following Mercado down the street. After all, it is said that animals can sense when someone is a kind and loving human.

As the LAPD Hollywood Division joked that Hobart was their latest K-9 unit member, it gave Mercado an idea. He was so enamoured with his new little four-legged friend that he decided to adopt him. But rather than being a police dog, Hobart is now "living the good life with Mercado and his family" as a much-loved family pet.
