Back in 2018, wildfires ravaged the Attica region of Greece. Among its victims, the fire destroyed a resort - killing 82 people and injuring 170.
A survivor
On the morning after the fire, a local man was taking a walk by the sea. There, in the distance, he spotted something lying down on a rock.
As he looked closer, he realised it was a dog! The poor dog’s fur looked rough and covered in soot. That’s when the man understood - the pup was a survivor of the fire. She had most likely run into the water to escape the flames, and climbed onto the rock for refuge. The man couldn’t help but tear up as he called an animal rescue for help.
As he waited for help to arrive, the man took a photo of the dog and posted it on social media. Little did he know that this photo would soon become the symbol of the wildfire’s survivors.
Stranded dog photo goes viral
But most importantly, it would reunite the lost dog, Lua, with her family!
Indeed, a few hours after her rescue, Lua’s family showed up at the shelter, saying they had seen her photo online. They explained that during the chaos the night of the fire, Lua had run away. Her family had searched and searched for her, to no avail. But thanks to her viral photo, they were reunited with her again!
Lua and her family were quickly evacuated from Mati, where the fires had taken place. And now the devastating fires are but a distant memory!
