Ciara Nolan and Jean Francois Bonnet were out walking in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland when they spotted a Golden Retriever all alone.
Quick-thinking medics
The dog was quite clearly lost and so cold that she could not walk or make a noise. The couple, who are both doctors, immediately sprang to action, wrapping the dog in their spare clothes and forming a makeshift harness so that they could carry her back down the mountain.
They took the dog to safety, got her warm and then set about finding her owners.
It was later discovered that the dog, Neesha, belonged to Erina O'Shea Goetelen. She had been searching for her for over two weeks and had almost given up hope of finding her again.
Alerting the authorities
They filmed the heartwarming rescue and shared it on the social media site TikTok. The video went viral, and most people praised the couple’s actions.
But, amongst the thousands of views and well wishes, it seems that one person didn’t appreciate the selfless act and instead reported the couple’s actions to the police.
The healthcare workers had been visiting a mental health retreat designed as a getaway for essential workers during the pandemic. So, police investigated whether they were entitled to be away from home.
Well, whatever the outcome of the police investigation, we at least know that one pup and her owner are very glad the couple were there.
