Families of lost pets should never give up hope. This is especially the case if their animal is microchipped (and their info is kept up to date!)

A Good Samaritan crossed paths with a little, lonely Chihuahua in the middle of the street about a month ago. The man immediately brought the small dog to YOUR Humane Society SPCA, Florida.

Vets scanned for a chip, and suddenly, the little stray was no longer a stray. His name was Alex and he had a family.

Microchipping keeps families together

But it doesn’t end there. Imagine how surprised the family was to get a call about the dog they lost…six years ago!

That’s right, Alex had dug a hole under the fence back in 2013 when his best dog friend (Thunder) moved away. Alex’s family spent weeks and months searching for their beloved pooch, but to no avail.

Long time, no see!

The family was beyond delighted to hear that their pup was still alive and well. But they were anxious – would Alex remember them?

Turns out, they were worried for nothing! As soon as Alex caught a whiff of his family, he started to tug on his leash, wagging his entire body uncontrollably!

And the best part is, later that day, he got to reunite with Thunder, too! True love never dies!
