Hera's past is incredibly sad.
The NAWS animal shelter in the US took the brave cat in and shared her story in a video.
A painful legacy
Hera was abandoned simply because her family was moving house. The poor four-year-old cat now finds herself in the shelter, frightened, withdrawn, and depressed. On top of losing her home and family, Hera was declawed on all four paws as a kitten.
This is a high-risk procedure that involves removing a cat's claws, along with the bones and cartilage they are attached to. It consists of several painful amputations that can lead to lifelong complications for the cat.
A fresh start for Hera
Just a few weeks after her heartfelt plea was shared, Hera's fortunes changed. Moved by the little cat's distress, a family decided to open their home to her and, most importantly, to accommodate her disability.
Today, Hera no longer sleeps on a cold shelter floor. Her new owners have kitted out their home with thick rugs and soft cushions to soothe her painful joints. She has finally found the patience and kindness she so desperately needed to learn to trust again.
