Last summer, a woman in Alberta, Canada, was walking past a dumpster when she heard a strange noise coming from inside.
Inside the bin, she quickly noticed a cardboard box that had been taped shut, with a cat circling it, looking visibly distressed.
Three kittens trapped inside a box
Without a moment's hesitation, the woman lifted the box out of the dumpster and opened it. Inside, she found three terrified kittens huddled together.
The woman immediately contacted the Edmonton Cold Weather Animal Rescue Society for help. The organisation agreed to take the kittens in, ensuring they would be safe and could eventually find loving homes.
An unexpected helper
Surprisingly, it turned out that the cat trying to free the kittens wasn't their mother. She was an 8-month-old stray who had likely heard their cries and was trying to help them.
Once everyone was safe, the volunteers quickly saw how sweet and affectionate the kittens and the young cat were. The rescuers named the kittens Taffy, Twizzler, and Souffle, and the older cat Eclair. So far, Twizzler and Souffle have already been adopted into loving families. In time, Taffy and Eclair will surely find their forever homes too.
