Council worker spots an abandoned bag, then they realise there's something inside

By Ludivine Mazzotti

This employee's workday took a very unexpected turn...

On 7th July, while tending to the grounds of a community centre in Risca, Wales, a council worker noticed a closed bag abandoned near a basketball court.

His instinct told him to go and take a look. And it's a good thing he did, because as he got closer, he saw a tiny head poking out of the bag.

A tiny discovery

Inside was a small kitten, about 12 weeks old. It was a female, abandoned with a blanket and a little food by her side. The poor little thing was covered in fleas.

There was no one around. Without a moment's hesitation, the man scooped up the little kitten and took her home, before quickly taking her to a vet.

A lucky escape

The initial vet check-up was reassuring for everyone. Despite her ordeal, the little kitten was a normal weight and only had minor health issues, mainly due to the fleas. However, she wasn't microchipped, which has made it difficult to find her family.

After this emergency care, the kitten was handed over to the RSPCA, where she is now safely continuing her treatment. The search for her family is ongoing, with appeals being shared on social media.

The rescue centre team praised the council worker for his quick thinking. Without his help, the kitten's chances of survival would have been very slim. We wish her a peaceful recovery after such a terrible ordeal, and we hope she finds her family very soon!
