When Delaney Henderson welcomed Toby, an adorable 10-month-old tabby cat, into her home, she thought she was simply giving a furry friend a new life. But as she looked closer at her new companion, a particular detail left her speechless. Toby's paws weren't quite like those of other cats.
"When I first saw his toes, I really couldn't believe it," she said. And for good reason: while most cats have 18 toes in total, Toby had many more. This physical peculiarity, far from being a handicap, was about to make him a veritable star.
A world record and a celebration of difference
Curious, Delaney decided to count her cat's toes precisely. The result was astonishing: Toby has 28 toes! This condition, known as polydactyly, is generally harmless to the animal. It simply results in wider paws that look like big mittens.
This exceptional feature did not go unnoticed by the famous Guinness World Records. The organisation has officially recognised Toby as the living cat with the most toes in the world. He now ties the all-time record held by another cat named Jake, leaving his own (very large) paw print on history.
For Delaney, this recognition is a wonderful way to celebrate what makes her cat so unique. Toby is a playful and affectionate kitten, and his extra toes don't stop him from running, jumping, and living his best cat life.
