When she dropped her cat off at the vet, she had absolutely no idea what was about to happen.
The vet had already performed all the necessary checks on the cat and had determined it was a female.
A shocking discovery
The spaying procedure was scheduled to go ahead as planned. But when she returned to the clinic to collect her cat, the vet had some shocking news. The cat's owner shared her story on the social media platform Reddit: "The vet made a huge mistake and I don't know what to do."
It turns out, the vet had opened up the cat to look for her ovaries. It was only then, with the cat on the operating table, that the vet realised there were no ovaries to be found. The entire medical team then understood they had made a mistake from the very beginning: the cat was actually a male. They quickly switched procedures, performing a castration instead of the planned spay.
The owner's shock
When she came back to pick up her pet, she was hit with two pieces of news. Not only was her cat actually a male, but the medical team had to open him up to figure it out. They did, however, try to offer a silver lining: a castration is cheaper than a spay.
In the comments, users expressed their shock at the situation: "Oh my God! Your cat has been through so much unnecessary internal trauma. You need to change vets, because this one is incompetent." Another wrote: "I work in a spay/neuter clinic and this absolutely should not have happened. Leave a review or file a report, and find another vet. I hope your cat recovers quickly!" It's not every day you find out your cat isn't quite who you thought they were!
