Last winter, on a busy, noisy street in the Bronx, New York, people hurried past, paying no attention to a cardboard box left on the pavement. Inside was Jaisa, a little tabby cat, frozen with fear and cold.
As reported by The Dodo, it was the charity Little Wanderers NYC that managed to save her life. Rescued just in the nick of time, Jaisa was immediately brought to safety, given medical care, and placed with a foster family.
A severe respiratory infection
Unfortunately, her health took a critical turn for the worse. Suffering from a severe respiratory infection, she was also severely dehydrated and burning up with a fever, and she stopped eating altogether. Her weight then dropped dramatically, forcing the medical team to insert a feeding tube.
Her foster family was then called upon to help with her care. Despite the pain and weakness, Jaisa surprised everyone with her resilience.
A happy new beginning
Today, six months after her rescue, the little cat is doing much better. She now spends her days chasing her toy balls, watching the world go by from the window, and kneading her favourite blankets.
