A dog named Hashbrown was found wandering all alone on the Hawaiian island of Maui.

When rescuers from the Maui Humane Society found him, the dog seemed extremely confused and disoriented.

He had no microchip or collar and appeared to be completely lost.

A heartbreaking discovery

It didn't take long for the rescuers to figure out why the dog was so disoriented. It turned out that Hashbrown was completely blind. A medical examination revealed that the poor dog had been born blind. The rescuers were heartbroken to realise that someone had abandoned him, knowing he would be left to wander the world in total darkness.

Poor Hashbrown had no idea what was happening. He was lucky to be found before any harm came to him. The rescuers put out a notice to find his family, but sadly, no one came forward to claim him.

A new beginning

Fortunately, Hashbrown quickly adapted to life at the shelter. He made friends with every dog and person he met, and his blindness didn't stop him from living life to the full. The shelter reached out to its partners to see if any could take the sweet dog in.

When the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego, California, heard about Hashbrown's plight, they immediately agreed to take him in. Hashbrown was flown from Maui to San Diego. Upon his arrival, he was placed with a loving foster family, where he instantly bonded with his new humans. Hashbrown is now looking for a forever home with a family who is willing to make a few simple adjustments to make his life a little easier. The centre will provide support to the family that decides to adopt this big-hearted dog.
