On 12th April, Lisa received a call from a woman about a family of dogs living in a remote house deep in the woods. She rushed to the scene immediately.
A heartbreaking scene
The area was a cluster of houses, all abandoned since a tornado hit in 2011. Lisa found one house that was particularly dilapidated and unsanitary. Inside, she soon discovered a litter of puppies. Sadly, three of them had not survived. The poor little things were sleeping amongst the rubbish, with their mother growling protectively at Lisa.
Lisa gently gathered the surviving puppies to take them somewhere warm and safe. She then arranged for them to go into foster care. Before heading to their temporary homes, the pups were dewormed and treated for fleas. The rescuers named the mother Georgia, and all the puppies were given names beginning with "G": Ginny, Gina, Grace, Grady, Grant, and Gerald.
A new beginning
Happily, since the rescue, all the puppies have found loving homes. On 11th December, the charity posted on Facebook that their mum, Georgia, is still looking for her forever family. They shared some beautiful photos of her, hoping to find her the perfect match.
Lisa and the team at Paws of Dixie Animal Rescue are so grateful that someone took the time to report the family in the abandoned house. Thanks to that one phone call, they were able to save seven precious lives!
Georgia is still waiting for her forever family.
