Every morning, the tomcat would come to the door and watch the family's cats inside the house.
A plea for help
Mittens needed help, and he was determined to find it.
So, the family started leaving cat food outside for him, along with a shelter so he could keep warm.
The family noticed that the tomcat was limping, dirty, and covered in fleas and ticks.
They managed to safely catch him and took him to the vet for a check-up. It was there they discovered the shocking reason for his limp: the poor cat had been shot with a pellet gun.
The stray cat wasn't used to people or being fed regularly.
He was very fearful, terrified of being hurt again.
Learning to trust again
The family set Mittens up in their bathroom, giving him a quiet room of his own where he could decompress. He spent most of his time hiding behind the toilet, watching his new family from a distance.
After a few days, he began to relax. He even started to accept strokes from his new owner.
Then, Mittens fell in love with his new feline siblings, the very cats he had watched for so long from the other side of the door.
The tomcat started to settle into his new life.
With the help of his new family, Mittens discovered toys, cat trees, comfy beds, and cuddles for the very first time.
Today, he's a real TikTok star with hundreds of thousands of followers who keep up with his daily adventures!
