The good Samaritan approached the doghouse and couldn't help herself from crying when her fears were confirmed.
A pitbull-type, brindle dog was hiding inside the doghouse, scared and trembling.
Anyone home?
She had been so quiet that no-one had noticed her before. They had just assumed the doghouse had been dumped – no-one could've ever imagined that a dog would be left inside.
The 9-year-old female was taken to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. She was fed, bathed, and was able to receive all the veterinary care she needed.
The dog was also scanned for a microchip, and to everyone's surprise, she had one! The chip was tracked back to a man living in Watsonville. However, it was discovered that this man had become homeless a year prior and had left his dog in the care of a certain Ruben Guerrero. He was charged for Willful Abandonment of an Animal, which violates the California State Penal Code.
New life for a very good girl
As for the pooch, whose name was actually Pebbles, she is now on the road to recovery. It was a tough ordeal she had to go through, but she doesn't hold a grudge. She's just too happy to be surrounded by kind and loving humans.
We wish you a very happy ending Pebbles, you deserve it!
