The Animal Education and Rescue shelter then took her in and found her what they thought would be a forever home...
A history of heartbreak
But on 31st July 2024, Lola was found on the streets by police officers.
This time, a Chicago shelter scanned her microchip and contacted the team at Animal Education and Rescue (AEAR) to let them know Lola had been found.
Lola's story is a very sad one. The couple who originally adopted her divorced. The husband kept the dog for a year before giving her to another family.
Lola stayed with that family until March of this year, 2024. She then went to live with the sister of the second couple after they moved.
This lady's adult son then gave Lola to a man to drop her off at the local shelter, and she was eventually found by police from the North Chicago pound.
A second chance for Lola
Within an hour, rescuers from AEAR had collected Lola.
They took her straight to a groomer to have her nails clipped, as they were extremely long.
Sadly, Lola struggles to get around as she is “morbidly obese” and is now a senior dog.
At 13 years old, the chances of her being adopted seemed very slim. Fortunately, Lola was placed with a foster family who promised to keep her for the rest of her life if needed.
On Facebook, people were very sympathetic towards Lola:
“Humans continually let these babies down, and they still love us. We don't deserve animals,” wrote one user.
“Animals deserve better! I'm so sorry humans let you down, sweet girl. I pray your future is better than ever,” wrote another person.
In what was a wonderful turn of events, Lola was adopted! Against all odds, given her age and her past, sweet Lola found her forever home soon after she was rescued. Her story moved so many people that this lovely dog was finally put in the spotlight. It's another testament to the power of social media and love.
