Diane Ewert is a rescuer with Foster Adopt Rescue Transport in Fresno, California.

Back in March, while driving down a city road, she spotted a little black shape crossing the road in her rearview mirror.

She quickly realised it was a stray dog, and it was in desperate need of help.

A desperate stray

After checking with a neighbour if the dog was his (it wasn't), Diane pulled over and set about earning the little one's trust. The dog was very shy, so Diane simply sat down and let her approach in her own time.

As the minutes passed, the dog edged closer and closer to Diane. Eventually, she felt comfortable enough to snuggle up to her. The clever dog seemed to understand that Diane was there to help and rescue her. When she rolled onto her back to show her belly, Diane knew she was ready to be saved.

A successful rescue

Diane was so relieved. She carried the dog to her car and placed her on the passenger seat. The dog snuggled up to Diane and buried her nose in the crook of her rescuer's elbow, as if to thank her for getting her off the streets.

Diane posted the rescue on Instagram. The dog, now named Sunny, completely melted the hearts of people online. In fact, the video went viral, racking up over 6.2 million views! This incredible exposure helped Sunny find her forever home. Sunny joined her new family in July, and she is now thriving, enjoying cuddles from her humans and playtime with her dog siblings, Shadow and Smidge.
