On a deserted road, around 2am, a driver was heading home when he spotted a small figure in the middle of the carriageway. Thinking it was a raccoon or an opossum, he immediately swerved to avoid it before pulling over onto the verge. But as he got closer, he realised the animal in distress wasn't what he thought at all... it was a tiny kitten, alone, trembling, and clearly starving.
The young man immediately scooped him up and decided to care for him temporarily. The little feline was bottle-fed, bathed to get rid of fleas, then taken to the vet. The vet confirmed that he could now move on to more solid food.
A simple act that probably saved his life
Even though he can't keep the kitten long-term, his rescuer is now looking for the best solution to give him a safe future. His story, shared on Reddit, has deeply moved people online, generating tens of thousands of reactions and messages of encouragement.
Under the post, thousands of people have praised the driver's courage and kindness. Many are encouraging him to adopt the kitten, now affectionately nicknamed "Possum", in reference to the initial mix-up.
