In Birmingham, England, a man was alerted by barking sounds coming from underground. As reported by The Dodo, the intrigued passer-by decided to investigate. He soon realised the noises were coming from the drains.
The man decided to contact the emergency services. Firefighters arrived at the scene and discovered that "the noises" were actually the mews of a kitten.
Such a big voice
The animal was trapped in a sewage system and had no way of getting back to the surface.

As well as the firefighters, the RSPCA attended to provide help and expertise. Unfortunately, the little female became frightened whenever anyone approached her.

For hours, the rescuers tried to bring her to safety. It wasn't until the following morning that they finally managed to bring her to the surface.
Named Olivia Twist, the rescuers were impressed by her powerful voice. "It was a fantastic rescue because she would almost certainly have perished if she hadn't been so loud in the tunnel, which alerted a passer-by to her plight," the RSPCA said.
The little cat is currently being cared for before she's ready to be adopted.
