As Halloween approaches, the Catalan municipality of Terrassa in Spain has announced the suspension of black cat adoptions.
With this decision, the town hopes to prevent potential "rituals" that could take place during this celebration.
"A serious matter"
Until 10th November, all requests to adopt black cats will be refused in order to minimise the "potential risks [...] linked to superstitions, rituals or irresponsible uses", a statement explains.
To justify this decision, Noël Duque, the councillor responsible for animal welfare in this town located north-west of Barcelona, explained that requests to adopt black cats increase during this period.
It's therefore impossible for local authorities to "turn a blind eye" to this "serious matter".
