In early August, Matt, a vet who specialises in cats, shared an unexpected scene on his Instagram account @dr.mattmcglasson. Whilst making a quick stop at a Panda Express restaurant in Indianapolis, United States, he heard meowing coming from inside the toilets. Intrigued, he went closer and discovered a tiny black kitten huddled behind the bowl.
The little feline looked up at him with big, hopeful eyes. Matt explained that it must have been left there very shortly before he arrived, as these were public toilets. Even for this vet who was used to unusual situations, the scene remained baffling. "What am I supposed to do?" he wondered in his video.
An improvised but successful rescue
The vet's expertise quickly took over. He took in the kitten and began thinking about a solution. A restaurant employee actually wanted to adopt a cat, but she wasn't equipped to take one in and had to finish her shift. Matt then took the initiative to go to PetSmart to buy everything needed: food, litter, bowls and other basic accessories.
Thanks to this gesture, the young woman was able to leave with the kitten that very evening. Without a cat carrier, the animal travelled in a takeaway box from the restaurant, under the tender gaze of the vet who wished it good luck.
A story that moves people online
The video, viewed over 622,000 times and liked by more than 78,000 people, quickly prompted thousands of reactions. Many expressed their outrage at the kitten being abandoned in such an unlikely place, whilst praising the vet's generosity.
"I love that you bought all the essentials to help her get started. You really are a beautiful soul," commented one user. Another added: "It was so kind of you to put together a little starter kit."
