The short Instagram reel, viewed more than 130,000 times, featured two cats sitting on rucksack-style carriers while their owners travelled through the network.
It also set out “rules” for pet travel, such as avoiding peak hours, keeping animals off seats and using lifts rather than escalators.
Charity warns of stress for cats
Cats Protection has demanded the post be removed, saying the footage risked encouraging owners to put pets through unnecessary stress. The charity argued that loud announcements, busy platforms and confined carriages are unsuitable environments for cats, who feel safest in their home territory. It also raised concerns about harnesses and backpacks, which can restrict a cat’s natural instincts to move freely.
Mixed reaction online
Reactions to the video were sharply divided. While some social media users called it “brilliant” and joked that cats would improve their commute, others warned that most felines would be overwhelmed. Some also pointed out the risk of triggering allergies among fellow passengers.
A TfL spokesperson said pets are permitted on the network provided owners follow its travel conditions.
