A difficult start

Lucy is a small, quiet-looking white and grey cat, but behind her calm appearance lies a heartbreaking story.

As reported by Newsweek, the feline was brought to the Boone Area Humane Society (BAHS) in the US on 31st January by her owner's family.

At 17 years old, the cat had lived in the same house her whole life, until her owner had to go into palliative care.

Her owner's family couldn't keep her, so they decided to surrender her to the shelter.

A life-changing Facebook post

"She was a little lost at first, which is understandable after living her whole life in a quiet home," says Kim Adams, the shelter's director. But the old cat quickly showed her affectionate nature and endearing personality, melting the hearts of the volunteers.

The shelter staff decided to share her story on Facebook to try and find her a new family. They hoped to catch the attention of animal lovers and encourage adoption applications.

What happened next exceeded all their expectations. Less than 24 hours after the post went live, they had received nine online adoption applications. Some potential adopters were even willing to drive for more than four hours to meet Lucy.

The shelter soon found a family for granny Lucy. After just 19 days, the cat was adopted, getting her second chance at happiness.
