A shelter in Ohio, USA, has shared an unexpected answer from a recent adoption application, providing a much-needed moment of light relief.

While many American shelters are under constant pressure, a story from Ohio, USA, has brought a bit of light relief. The League for Animal Welfare, based in Batavia, recently shared a highly original answer from an adoption form on its Instagram page.

As with many organisations, prospective adopters must fill out a detailed questionnaire. This covers topics such as other pets in the home, planned veterinary care, and circumstances that might lead them to return the animal to the shelter.

A rather unexpected answer

When asked about the circumstances under which they might return the cat, one applicant replied with disarming brevity: "If the cat turns out to be an undercover spy." The shelter posted a photo of the form on Instagram, where it quickly gathered hundreds of likes.

The shelter was quick to point out that this was by far the best answer they had ever seen on the form.

Chip, suspect number one

The post was accompanied by a picture of the cat in question: a ginger and white female named Chip. "Which brings us to Chip. Because if we're being honest... she could very well be a super spy. She sees everything. She's always watching. We're just saying. Keep an eye on her. Or maybe she's already watching us," the shelter joked.

The League for Animal Welfare has not confirmed whether Chip has been cleared by the intelligence services. But back at the shelter, they assure everyone they are keeping a close eye on her... just in case.
