Very worried, the rescuers went to inspect the carriers...
In the bottom carrier was a young cat, and in the top one, her three kittens, all panting from the heat on this late August afternoon.
A family in need of help
There was a torn piece of paper on one of the carriers, with just a few words: "I'm sorry. Nice kitten. No money. Help!" The team's hearts broke for this little family. They quickly mobilised to bring the carriers inside the shelter, and they gave the cats water to try and cool them down.
Ellen Richter, one of the shelter volunteers, offered to foster the cat family. The family was able to relax in a gentle and comforting home. The mother cat was named Italia Ristretto and her little ones: Pecan Caramel Purrmacchiato, Mocha Toffee Meowcha and Cinnamon Swirl Catpuccino.
All is well
Initially shy, the kittens grew bolder each day! Now they're testing their environment and at 7 weeks old, they've entered a phase full of excitement! Their days are filled with chases, hilarious playtime and endless exploration.
When they're finally exhausted, the kittens snuggle in the sun on a soft blanket. Thanks to the rescuers' quick action, the young mother and her kittens were saved from the heat and have a second chance at life.
