The bed is placed in the living room whilst the family watches the evening news.
The dog is lying in her bed, on her back.
A moment of madness?
She wriggles about in her bed and turns in all directions, pausing from time to time. It seems the elderly dog is having her "mad half hour". What's really amusing is that the video caption tells us this lovely dog has this gentle moment of madness every evening at the same time.
Indeed, her owner posted the video of the dog's routine on Reddit with the caption: "Every night between 8:30 and 9pm, she does her 'old lady' version of the zoomies". This moment of madness is accompanied by the dog's grumbling. We'd love to know what's going through her head at that moment!
Back to normal
Then, once the madness has passed, the dog returns to her usual activities as if nothing happened. She looks around and seems puzzled as to why everyone is staring at her with such surprised expressions.
What the dog is experiencing is called "Frenetic Random Activity Periods" (FRAPs). These are sudden bursts of intense energy where dogs run in circles, sometimes spinning around. They're very common in dogs and even more so in puppies. Whilst their exact cause isn't fully understood, it's thought they help dogs release excess energy, excitement or stress.
Internet users shared their similar experiences: "My dog does exactly the same movements after every meal or snack. Food simply makes her excited!" Or: "My 14-year-old dog does this on the sofa every evening around 9:30pm." A very amusing habit indeed!
