When Beauford adopted Beans in 2017, he knew he was giving a second chance to a dog rescued from a troubled past. Found on a farm in the southern United States before passing through an illegal breeding facility, Beans had eventually found refuge in a New York shelter. Very quickly, a deep bond formed between them. Each provided the other with invaluable support. For Beauford, who was going through difficult times related to post-traumatic stress and depression, Beans became a true lifeline.
A shocking discovery that strengthens their bond
Recently, when Beans seemed unwell, a precautionary visit to the vet revealed a shocking secret. An X-ray showed several small fragments lodged in his back. These tiny shards, remnants of a shotgun blast, bore witness to a heavy past of abuse. The surprise was all the greater as Beans had never shown signs of pain, except for a slight reluctance to be touched in certain places.
Upon discovering this, Beauford felt a shockwave. Even more so, this revelation echoed his own past. A former police officer, Beauford had survived a shooting. This similarity in their destinies strengthened his attachment to Beans even further.
Today, Beans and his human live a very happy life in perfect harmony.
