Two tiny puppies were showered with love by a foster family.

Being born different wasn't easy for Violet and Dash, two French Bulldog puppies.

These adorable pups faced a particular challenge: they were born with a partial cleft palate. When no one else was willing to care for them, Kelly was called to step in.

Health challenges

A veterinary practice had contacted her to take charge of the fragile pair, who weighed just “5 and 6 ounces respectively” – about the size of mice.

Kelly had experience caring for dogs with this condition, and that’s how the brother and sister arrived at her home.

The two puppies were doted on by Kelly and her son, London. During the first weeks together, mother and child watched over them like hawks.

Risks of breed modifications

Their situation also gave Kelly an opportunity to remind people of the risks linked to breed modifications: “Over the years, we’ve altered the breed so much that they can no longer breathe properly, suffer from spinal problems, etc. It’s hard to consider this ethical in any way.”

Today, the siblings are three months old and should soon be ready for adoption and it's all thanks to this mother and son for their dedication to French Bulldogs.
