Flight 694 was en route from Detroit to Los Angeles when the dog, travelling with its owner, began showing signs of distress.
The crew immediately issued a call for medical help, and, by sheer luck, a veterinarian onboard stepped in to stabilise the pet.
Flight diverted
With the animal’s condition still uncertain, the pilot made the decision to divert to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. A veterinary team was ready on arrival, ensuring the dog received urgent care.
Though the unscheduled stop delayed the flight by two and a half hours, passengers were supportive, with many later praising the airline’s swift action and empathy.
Delta confirmed the dog is now recovering well and reiterated its commitment to the safety of all onboard, human or otherwise.
First-class care
The story has since gone viral, with social media users applauding the airline’s priorities. “That’s what you call first-class care,” one person commented.
In an age of travel stress, this heartwarming detour showed just how far some airlines will go to put well-being first.
