Kailah had always dreamed of owning a Dalmatian. During lockdown, the couple found an online advert for a litter of puppies.
The couple immediately fell in love with the second smallest of the litter: Bobbie. They drove for an hour to go and pick her up.
Nothing went to plan
Kailah had thoroughly researched the breed and was aware of their high energy levels and potential health problems.
However, despite all her research, nothing could have prepared her for her adventures with Bobbie!
Just two days after coming home, Bobbie ate a bee. When they took her to the vet, the couple learned that she had a bacteria called Giardia, which comes from contaminated water and could have made her seriously ill.
Later, Bobbie broke a toe the first time the couple let her run free in an open field.
A catalogue of calamities
When she was spayed, the puppy had so much energy when she woke up that she ended up bursting her stitches. This resulted in a $2,000 emergency surgery bill, on top of the $1,000 they had spent on the spaying procedure just days before.
Bobbie also needs a low-purine diet, as she is prone to urinary tract infections and kidney stones.
Including her illnesses, injuries, and vaccinations, Kailah estimates she has spent just over $10,000 on vet bills for Bobbie.
Internet users were torn between laughter and tears upon discovering the dog's story:
”LOL, the things we do for our fur babies”
”At least she still has that cute puppy face.”
Despite everything, Kailah said that Bobbie is her best friend, and the most intelligent and mischievous dog she has ever met.
She is proud to treat her like a princess. And why not? Who wouldn't want to be treated like royalty?
