Vanessa Keating, Theresa Burge and Aubrey Metropulos were camping in a canyon in Arizona, USA, when they had an unexpected encounter.

The three friends were searching for a specific type of cactus in the area near their campervan.

A surprising discovery

They didn't find their cactus, but they did have an encounter that saved a life. They found a dog, all alone in the desert.

The women knew there were coyotes in the area, so they couldn't possibly leave him on his own.

At first, the little dog was a bit nervous and growled softly.

The women realised that the poor dog had a piece of cactus stuck in his skin, which must have been causing him pain.

As soon as they removed it, the dog jumped joyfully into their arms and gave them lots of licks!

A happy ending

The women gave him plenty of cuddles and started asking around the campsite, trying to find his family.

Unfortunately, they had no luck, but they refused to give up.

The next day, they took the lost dog to a veterinary clinic to check for a microchip. They were delighted to discover that he had one!

They contacted his dad, who told them the pup's name was Echo, and they quickly arranged a reunion.

The reunion was very emotional. Echo's owner thought his dog had been eaten by a coyote and was beginning to lose hope…

He was so grateful and relieved to have his dog back safe and sound, and in such good hands.

Echo was so excited to be back in his dad's arms, as you can see in the video below!
