In early May, staff at Efteling theme park made an extraordinary discovery at the George and the Dragon rollercoaster.
During a routine inspection, an employee came across a small black kitten trapped in a collection container - a place normally used to collect oil to protect the environment.
The tiny kitten was dirty and soaked in oil. She was cleaned up, before being transferred to Waalwijk Animal Shelter. "What an adventure this little lady has already been through!", wrote Animal Ambulance Brabant North-East, sharing a photo of the tiny creature.
Another furry surprise
Later that day, there was yet another surprise, when a second black kitten was discovered in another collection container, this time used for wastewater under the stairwell of the roller coaster station. The theme park team are unsure how the animals ended up there but suspects they must have been born nearby.
Efteling employee adopts duo
The future now looks bright for the so-called 'Efteling kittens'.
Both animals have been placed with a foster carer for treatment and socialisation as they recover from their ordeal. And the best news?
The employee who found the kittens will adopt them as soon as they're ready to join their new family. From roller coaster ride to forever home - it couldn't get much better than this.
