On the morning of Tuesday, 25 March 2025, staff at the Haut-Bugey shelter in France were met with an unpleasant surprise.
Outside their shelter, they found a pet carrier that, at first glance, could have been mistaken for a donation of supplies. However, this carrier was far from empty.
Trapped in filth and left to suffer
Peering out from the white and green plastic carrier was the pink nose of a small tabby and white cat. The poor animal had been abandoned and exposed to the elements, unable to escape. Forced to relieve itself inside the confined space, it was covered in filth, its dignity stripped away.
To make matters worse, the carrier had been left directly in front of the shelter’s sign displaying its opening hours, an act that seemed almost deliberate.
Rescued and cared for
Despite the cruelty it endured, the little cat remained sociable and affectionate towards the shelter staff. The team at Haut-Bugey wasted no time ensuring its safety, cleaning it up, and offering the care and comfort it so desperately needed.
Heartbroken by the neglect, the shelter shared the story on its Facebook page, launching an appeal for witnesses in the hope of identifying the person responsible.
