Around three years ago, the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago received several calls about a cat in terrible shape.
At the time, this cat was living with his elderly owner. This man was, due to his condition, hardly capable of caring for himself, much less so for an animal.
A ‘creature’ in need of help
And, according to the reports that were coming into the Anti-Cruelty Society, the Persian cat, named Sinbad, was almost unrecognizable, and described as looking like he was ‘dragging a carpet behind him’.
When rescuers arrived at this man’s house, they were instantly shocked. They could not take their eyes off the poor ‘creature’ who was indeed covered in thick matted fur. The animal hardly looked like a cat at all.
He was immediately taken to the vet clinic, where it was discovered he had over 2 kilos (around 5 lbs) of extra fur on him. Due to this, the poor cat had been unable to move for a while. His muscles were atrophied, he was weak and skinny underneath all that fur.
5 lbs lighter and a happier future
But the vet team refused to give up on him. Although it took several hours, they were able to shave off the horrible masses of fur on his body, until he was a little kitty again.
They put a jumper on him so he could stay warm while he grew his coat back, and started immediately on a meal plan that would help him gain some weight.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long before Sinbad’s adorable face and brave personality was noticed by an adopter, who couldn’t help but take him home.
Now Sinbad is living the rest of his days as a spoiled member of a loving family.
