There, staring back at her among the leaves and twigs, was a tiny kitten, clearly startled by her presence.
“Hi! You’re just so little,” Rose said in a video posted to TikTok.
Startling discovery in the wood pile
As the kitten swatted at her, it was clear she hadn’t interacted with humans before. Rose was unsure what to do, but before she could do anything, the kitten’s mother appeared out of nowhere.
“It’s OK Mama,” Rose said gently. “Hello! I’m not gonna hurt you.”
To Rose’s surprise, the mother cat was friendly despite the kitten’s feisty nature. Rose quickly secured the cat in a carrier and went back to look for more. After finding one more kitten, Rose realised the mother, once thought to be feral, had likely been someone’s pet.

Feline family rescued
Rose had spotted the cat before but never succeeded in catching her until now when the cat was finally ready to accept help.
Rose made plans to find a family to adopt the kittens but decided to keep the mother cat, who she named Mama.
We hope the little kittens, Carolina Reaper and Scotch Bonnet, don't have to wait long to find their forever home. In the meantime, Mama is settling into her new life, safe and loved.
