On Wednesday 26th February, the bodies of Gene Hackman (95 years old), his wife Betsy Arakawa (65 years old), and their dog were found lifeless in their residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
This unexpected tragedy has shaken the world of movie fanatics as well as animal lovers.
A special bond with dogs
The actor, known for his extraordinary career, winning two Academy Awards, two BAFTAs, four Golden Globes, and one Screen Actors Guild Award, was also a devoted animal lover, particularly of dogs.
Throughout his life, Hackman demonstrated a deep affection for dogs. An emblematic episode dates back to 1999, during the filming of The Replacements in Baltimore.
Two stray dogs approached the set, and the actor, along with the cast, took care of them. Subsequently, Hackman adopted one of the two dogs, a gesture that testifies to his love for animals.
Hackman named the two German Shepherds Gene and Keanu, after himself and his co-star, Keanu Reeves, and later went to visit them at the shelter.
