Rita and Philip Potter, from Old Buckenham, described Daisy’s return as a “dream come true” after never giving up hope of finding her.
The Labrador was taken from their garden in November 2017, sparking widespread appeals and a 100,000-signature petition urging the government to strengthen pet theft laws.
Incredible discovery
Daisy, now 13, was discovered on 2 February in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, during an RSPCA investigation. Inspector Kim Walters found the dog with untreated mammary masses more than 200 miles from home. A vet scan revealed Daisy’s microchip, leading to an emotional reunion with the Potters on Thursday.
“We kept her photo on the mantelpiece and thought of her every day,” said 80-year-old Rita Potter. “We’re so grateful to the RSPCA for bringing her home.”
Witnesses had reported seeing Daisy bundled into a truck in 2017, but the vehicle’s number plate was untraceable.
Celebrity support
Her disappearance gained international attention, even being shared by Hollywood actor Tom Hardy.
Now, the Potters are focused on ensuring Daisy’s final years are filled with love. “She may be elderly, but she’ll be spoiled with treats and affection,” said Rita. “She has two comfy beds now – she’s home where she belongs.”
