Clara and her little dog, Cloe, have gone viral on social media after a video of their heartwarming moment was shared online.

Dogs will be dogs, and allowing them the freedom to behave naturally is a sign of true understanding. In return, they make countless efforts to understand us.

With this in mind, the scene featuring Cloe and her owner, Clara, in Madrid takes on a different perspective.

Freezing cold water

That day, temperatures in Madrid barely reached 10°C. Imagine how cold the water must have been.

"My dog decided to jump in to chase the ducks, and when I saw she couldn't get out and the water was freezing, I went in to rescue her," Clara later shared on Instagram.

"I think anyone would have done the same for their dog. Thanks to everyone who helped me warm up by lending me clothes. My dog, Cloe, and I are fine," she reassured followers.

The video quickly went viral for several reasons: the lighthearted joke about "she looks quite cool in the water", the widespread praise for Clara’s selfless act, and, as always on social media, some criticism.

Many users expressed their admiration, saying: "I don’t know you, but I admire and respect you. I would have done the same for Milo."

"She knows her dog best, only she knew if it was really at risk and worth jumping in."

One person highlighted the positive comments: "A fan of this dog mum, but an even bigger fan of all the empathetic people here."

Mixed reactions

However, not everyone agreed. Some pointed out that dogs should be kept on a lead to prevent incidents like this:

"This is how people learn to keep their dogs on a leash—it’s prohibited in Retiro because they can attack other animals."

While it’s true this specific park has leash restrictions, it also has designated off-leash hours. Others defended Clara, suggesting that accidents happen:

"What if the leash slipped off because the dog pulled too hard and ran? It could have unclipped by accident."

A few days later, Clara and Cloe recorded a follow-up video, laughing about the duck-chasing adventure. "My dog is adorable—until she sees a duck!"

Clara adores her little dog, whom she adopted 9 years ago and it's clear to see she'll do anything for her.
